Leaders Praise Beall’s Record, Vision and Dedication to Santa Clara County

San Jose, CA — Today, Assemblyman Jim Beall announced the endorsement of several key Santa Clara County leaders in his campaign for State Senate District 15, including Sheriff Laurie Smith, Board of Supervisors President Liz Kniss and Supervisor Ken Yeager. Also endorsing Assemblyman Beall are former County Executive Pete Kutras and former County Supervisor Rod Diridon, Sr.

Citing his long history of accomplishments and service, these leaders agreed that Assemblyman Beall is the best candidate to stand up for the people of Santa Clara County. They join hundreds of Santa Clara residents who have already endorsed Assemblyman Beall.

Born and raised in San Jose, Assemblyman Beall is a graduate of Bellarmine College Preparatory and San Jose State University. He served on the San Jose City Planning Commission beforebecoming the youngest person, at age 28, ever to be elected to the San JoseCity Council. He served 14 years on the council and in 1994, he was elected to the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors.

Beall was elected to the California Assembly in 2006 and re-elected by wide margins in 2008 and 2010. Over his 30 years in public service, he has represented nearly half of SD15. Jim has been married to his wife, Pat, for more than 25 years and is the proud stepfather of her two sons, Greg and Mark.

Beall Has Made Education a Priority and Fought for Public Education, Say Leaders

San Jose, CA — Assemblyman Jim Beall announced today several key educational endorsements for his race for state senate. State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson and a number of key education leaders, including County Superintendent Dr. Charles Weis, County Board of Education President Joe DiSalvo, Santa Clara County Board of Education Members Leon Beauchman and Julia Hoover–Smoot, and dozens of local school board members and officials from around the county have thrown their support behind Beall for State Senate.

"Throughout his career in public service, Jim Beall has made California's public schools a priority and worked to ensure that every child has access to a high-quality education — no matter their background," said Superintendent Torlakson. "I am proud to support Jim for the State Senate and look forward to continue working with him as an advocate for California's public schools."

Beall has been honored by numerous organizations during his career for his service on behalf of Santa Clara County's children and youth, especially for his strong support of programs that benefit at-risk youth, the disabled and children with mental illnesses. Recently, the Special Education Local Plan Area Administrators (SELPA) honored him as their Legislator of the Year.

Beall has also been a strong supporter of California's public colleges and universities, authoring and sponsoring numerous pieces of legislation to make college more affordable for working families and fund these institutions without fee increases.

"In the Assembly, Jim Beall has fought to protect funding for public schools, preventing cuts to academic programs like math, science and reading in our County schools," said County Board of Education President DiSalvo. Beall Declares for California State Senate PDF Print E-mail

San Jose, CA – Assemblyman Jim Beall made official his intention to run for the San Jose/Santa Clara County state senate district today.

“It has been an honor representing the people of San Jose on the City Council, as Supervisor and as a member of the California Assembly,” Beall said. “Today, I am declaring my intention to run for the state senate to continue fighting to make the South Bay a better place to live and work.”

Beall praised the redistricting commission for their hard work carrying out the people’s will expressed in Propositions 11 and 20. Beall stated, “The commissioners have worked hard, and diligently, to carry out the will of the voters of California. I applaud their efforts.”

“While the work of the commission is unfinished, if there is an odd-numbered state senate district that includes my home in the City of San Jose and the neighboring communities of the Santa Clara Valley, I intend to run in the June 2012 primary,” Beall declared. “I have accumulated unmatched experience working to create job growth, fighting traffic congestion, and protecting the health and safety of the people of Santa Clara County.”

Assemblyman Beall has established a campaign committee to run for state senate.

Born and raised in San Jose, Assemblyman Beall is a graduate of Bellarmine College Preparatory and earned a degree in Political Science from San Jose State University. In subsequent years, Jim attended San Jose State University graduate courses in urban planning and public finance.

Beall served on the San Jose City Planning Commission before becoming the youngest person, at age 28, ever to be elected to the San Jose City Council. He served 14 years on the council and in 1994, he was elected to the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors. In 2006, Beall was elected to the California Assembly.

Jim has been married to his wife, Pat, for more than 25 years. He is the proud stepfather of Pat’s two sons, Greg and Mark.
